You may be thinking of engaging a professional genealogist to help you discover the interesting stories and people in your past. You probably have questions about exactly how that works.

Basically, you begin by telling me what your goal is. It can be as simple as “I want to find out where my grandmother was born.” Or as complex as, “I have two boxes full of photos and papers and I don’t know where to start.” Or you may have done a good bit of research on your family, and want to engage a professional genealogist to help you break through your personal “brick wall.”

My commitment to you is thorough research, using solid methodology. You will receive a comprehensive fully-sourced report, including a list of sources consulted (both negative and positive), copies of pertinent documents, a research summary, and suggestions for future research. The time frame will depend upon how extensive the project. If it is a lengthy process, you will receive regular status reports, via email. You will also receive an itemized account of expenses, with no surprises.

Please consult the Fees & Services tab for additional information, including the repositories that I visit regularly.

If my particular skills do not match your research goals, I will happily refer you to someone who seems just right for your case.

(If you are interested in the identities of the people in the photos, go to the A Little More . . . tab.)
